YourBabyLibrary- 28 Weeks Pregnant: The Third Trimester

Welcome to the third trimester!

While 28 weeks pregnant you’ve reached the third trimester of your pregnancy. Both your mind and your body are preparing for these last few weeks and for the birth of your baby.  Some women at this time are full of energy while other women are easing themselves through uncomfortable pregnancy symptoms and counting down the days to the end of their pregnancy.  No matter what you’re feeling it’s perfectly normal.  These final weeks of your pregnancy will come with highs and lows.  Share both the highs and lows with your partner, family, and friends.  Get the support you need at this time to make it to the end of your pregnancy!

Coughing and sneezing getting you down?

While 28 weeks pregnant there are, of course, new pregnancy symptoms in store for you.  Urinary incontinence in these later weeks of your pregnancy is just one of those pregnancy symptoms that can become very irritating and lead to some embarrassment. The pressure of your uterus against the bladder as well as weakening pelvic floor muscles are the causes of this urinary incontinence. Doing your Kegel exercises not only now but throughout your pregnancy is essential.  Not only will Kegel exercises strengthen your pelvic floor muscles, they’ll also prepare you for a more controlled labor experience.  Really the only other thing you can do when it comes to urinary incontinence is to listen to your body and go to the bathroom when you feel the signals.  By now you’ve made it through other bothersome pregnancy symptoms.  You’ll make it through this one as well!

Sit down and get comfortable…

If you haven’t already, now that you’re 28 weeks pregnant it’s time to buy yourself a comfortable chair.  Not only will it feel wonderful to ease yourself into a comfy chair to find relief from many of those annoying pregnancy symptoms, you’ll be spending a lot of time sitting with baby after he or she is born.  Whether you’re going to be breast feeding or bottle feeding a comfortable chair is indispensable to your comfort. Look for a chair that’s easy for you to get in and out of at this time in your pregnancy.  Buying a footstool is a plus and ideal for putting up your feet and finding some relief from some of those pregnancy symptoms you’re most likely experiencing, such as a sore back.

Finding balance during pregnancy…

Finding balance at this time in your pregnancy is important for both you and your partner. While 28 weeks pregnant you’ll find that some activities are easy while some can be quite challenging. With so many different pregnancy symptoms to deal with it’s important that you talk to your partner and ask for help when you need it!  Don’t let the stress of being pregnant, pregnancy symptoms, and the upcoming birth of your baby take over how you’re feeling and dealing with things. Of course there are days when you’re going to be feeling a bit overwhelmed about all the changes that are happening in your life. The key to a healthy pregnancy is finding a balance between the stress you’re feeling and the wonders that are happening to you. Do what you need to do to ease any anxiety you’re feeling. Talk to your partner about your pregnancy symptoms and your concerns about giving birth. Taking a meditation class now can give you some great coping skills and methods to relax. Your pregnancy is a time of joy and wonder and whether you’re 28 weeks pregnant or just about to give birth it’s a time in your life when you should be celebrating the new baby you’re about to introduce to the world!

Shop while you can!

You’re 28 weeks pregnant and every day your baby is growing and your body is getting larger.  While you can still get around with relative ease why not pick up the last of that baby gear you’re going to need once baby is born.  If pregnancy symptoms aren’t getting you down, shop while you still can!  At this time in your pregnancy make sure you have those necessary items you need not only once baby is home but also those essentials you’ll need to bring baby home, such as a car seat. For the first two years of your baby’s life you’ll need a rear facing car seat. Even though you may be tempted to borrow a car seat from a friend, don’t! Car seats should be bought new.  So forget about those annoying pregnancy symptoms and go shop for those functional essentials you’re going to need. And don’t forget to pick up one or two frivolous things that are going to make your pregnancy shine, such as a new shade of lipstick! What better way to keep those pregnancy symptoms in the back of your mind than with something just for you!
