How to Conceive a Girl

When you Want to Have a Baby Girl

Are you wondering if there’s anything that you can do to ensure that you conceive a girl? For years couples around the world have been using a variety of methods to make sure that they give birth to a baby girl. Even though there isn’t a proven and natural way of assuring that you’re going to have a girl, there are some things that you can do to increase your chances. When it comes to chromosomes there are two types: the female X-chromosome and the male Y-chromosome.  Women have the X-chromosome within their eggs while men have sperm that either X-chromosome or Y-chromosome. When your egg is penetrated by sperm that has the X-chromosome your baby will be a girl. When it’s the Y-chromosome sperm that penetrates the egg your baby will be a boy. The main idea behind conceiving a girl is to encourage your body to have a more favorable environment for these X-chromosome bearing sperm.

Knowing when you Ovulate Before you Conceive

To increase your odds of having a girl you’ll first need to need know exactly when you’re ovulating. First determine how long your menstrual cycle is. Start counting from the first day of your last period all the way to the first day of your next period. Do this for a few months to determine what your average cycle length is. You’ll also want to buy an ovulation predictor kit so that you know exactly on which days you’re most fertile. The kit is used when you’re at the halfway mark between two periods.

Timing Intercourse If You Want a Girl

Once you know when you’re ovulating, you and your partner can time your intercourse to increase the chances of conceiving a girl. It’s believed that the X-chromosome sperm swim slower than Y-chromosome sperm and that they are also able to survive for a longer period of time in the female reproductive tract. Taking this into account you should have sex each day for 2 to 4 days before you ovulate. Then you should have intercourse again a few days after you’ve ovulated since the eggs can survive from 12 to 24 hours after being released. The idea is that if you have sex before ovulation that the male bearing sperm will have died off by the time you ovulate. This leaves only the X-chromosome female bearing sperm available to fertilize your egg.

Warmer Temperatures for Conceiving a Girl

Another theory for how to conceive a girl is that the X-chromosome bearing sperm like warmer temperatures. Whether there is any truth in this theory or not, it certainly can’t hurt to try. Before you and your partner have intercourse encourage him take a hot shower or bath. This will certainly heat up his sperm and increase the odds of having a girl. It’s important not to overdo it when it comes to heating things up. Fertility specialists will tell you that cooler temperatures are better for the optimum health of sperm.

Giving Up the Orgasm

Dr. Landrum Shettles, author of “How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby” believes that whether or not you orgasm plays a direct role in whether you conceive a girl or a boy. The idea behind this is that when you have an orgasm your body’s alkaline levels are raised. An alkaline environment is more favorable to boys so don’t have an orgasm during sex with your partner if you want to have a girl.

Sexual Position when Conceiving a Girl

It’s believed that sexual position can play a part in having a girl or a boy. In particular, shallow penetration during intercourse will increase your chances of having a girl. More acidity is found closer to the entrance of the vagina. As mentioned before the X-chromosome bearing sperm prefers an alkaline environment and a shallow position will promote this. The best position for shallow penetration is the missionary position.

Change Your Diet if you Want a Girl

There’s a theory that if you want a girl that you should eat certain foods a few weeks before you start to try and get pregnant. You’ll want to eat a diet that modifies the pH levels in your body and therefore in the vagina. Make sure that you consume foods that are high in acid such as lemons, oranges, and grapefruits. You should also try to eat foods that are high in magnesium and calcium such as almonds, cheese, and spinach. Changing what you eat isn’t a sure fire guarantee that you’ll be having a girl but once again, it can’t hurt. No matter what your diet should still be healthy and nutritionally well balanced.

Planning for a Girl or a Boy

There are many reasons why couples have a keen desire for either a girl or a boy. Maybe this is your first baby and you really want to have a girl first. Or maybe you already have two male children and really want to add a girl to the mix. It’s important to remember that if you want to conceive naturally that there is no guarantee of what sex your baby is going to be. Enjoy your pregnancy and your new baby no matter if you’re having a little girl or boy.
